Country Overview:

Sudan is one of Africa’s poorest countries. It is a predominantly agriculture economy, however, oil exports that now account for about some 70% of export earnings has lead to a substantial shift in the economic structure despite the civil war.

Economic Development still suffers as more than half of the state budget is devoted to the war effort.
IP Protection:

Trademark protection is granted in Sudan under law No.8 of 1969.

Sudan also has a patent law enacted since 1971 and in 1984 became a member of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).

The copyright law and related rights have been amended in December 1996 and infringements are prosecuted before the Civil Court of Sudan where the infringes are penalized by a fine or an imprisonment.
