Country Overview:

Although Jordan is a small country with limited natural resources, In January 2000, Jordan acceded to the World Trade Organization and ever since the government started to reinvigorate economic growth by focusing on information technology (IT), the Qualified Industrial Zones (QIZ) and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ), and expanding tourism.
IP Protection:

Jordan is considered as a leader in the enforcement of Intellectual Property laws in the region as it has been rewarded for its effort and was removed from the watch list of the International Intellectual Property Association.

Since joining the World Trade Organization in the year 2000, Jordan has reformed its laws and regulations in compliance with the International treaties.


Eight new laws covering the protection of Industrial designs, copyrights and other related rights have been enacted to satisfy TRIPS Agreement obligations.

Jordan now has laws grants the protection for Industrial Designs ( La No.14 of the year 2000), Geographical Indication ( law No.8 of 2000), Topographies of Integrated Circuits ( Law No.10 of the year 2000) as well as the protection of New Verities of Plants ( Law no. 24 of the year 2000).

The Jordanian Patent law No. 32 was amended in the year 1999 and the trademark law No.32 of the year 1952 was also amended in 1999.

A new law was also enacted in the year 2000 for the coverage of the unfair competition and Trade Secrets.
